Equitanicals began with a pony, a problem, and a determination to understand more about the products we use on our horses.
My daughters’ show pony had multiple allergies and reacted to many of the grooming products I could find in local shops. Finding something suitable had become a challenge. I wanted to care for our pony, enjoy preparing for shows with my daughters, and feel better informed about what I was applying.
That need led me to start researching ingredients, asking questions, and eventually developing products of my own. It was the beginning of Equitanicals.
A life rooted in horses
My love of all things equestrian runs deep. Horses have shaped both my working life and my family life, and they remain at the heart of what I do.
My background as a farrier gave me a practical, hands-on relationship with horses and their care. Working closely with them reinforced the importance of paying attention to the individual animal. Every horse has its own needs, and the small details matter.
That perspective stays with me today. Alongside Equitanicals, I have my own horses and compete with my daughters. I understand the time, effort, and affection that go into looking after them, as well as the pride of getting ready for a competition together.
The finished picture in the show ring is only a small part of that relationship. So much of it is built through everyday care: grooming, preparation, and simply spending time with our horses.
Equitanicals grew out of that life.
The questions behind the first products
Our pony’s reactions made me look more closely at products I might previously have chosen without much thought beyond their intended purpose.
I began researching what went into grooming formulations and why particular ingredients were used. I wanted to understand more than the promise on the front of a bottle. What role did each ingredient play? What information could help me make a more considered choice for our pony?
The more I researched, the more questions I had. I became increasingly interested in the information available to horse owners and the evidence behind product claims. It was no longer enough for me to choose something because it sounded appealing.
That curiosity became a turning point. With my background in horses and my love of aromatherapy, I began exploring how those interests could come together in equine grooming.
Equitanicals was born out of a need within our own family, and a willingness to keep looking for answers.
The art of aromatherapy meets luxury equine grooming
Aromatherapy has helped shape the character of Equitanicals from the beginning. My interest in essential oils and botanical ingredients brought another dimension to the way I thought about grooming products: their formulation, their texture, their scent, and the experience of using them.
I wanted to bring a sense of luxury to the everyday grooming routine, while keeping the horse at the centre of it.
For me, luxury is in the attention given to the details. It is choosing products thoughtfully and taking pleasure in the care we give our horses, whether we are preparing for a show or spending an ordinary afternoon at the yard.
Our pony’s experience also left me with an enduring respect for individual differences. An appealing ingredient story cannot tell us everything about whether a particular product will suit a particular horse. That is one reason continued learning matters so much to me.
Today, our British-made grooming collection reflects those two influences: a practical equestrian background and a love of aromatherapy-inspired care.
A family connection that continues
Sharing horses and competing with my daughters keeps the reason behind Equitanicals close.
The business began with a challenge we experienced together, and horses remain part of our daily lives as the brand develops. That connection matters to me. The routines, questions, and decisions involved in caring for our own horses continue to shape how I think about the range.
I know that grooming can mean different things on different days. Sometimes it is preparation for the ring. Sometimes it is a practical job that needs doing. Sometimes it is a welcome opportunity to slow down and spend time with a horse you love.
I want Equitanicals to feel at home in those real routines.
Still growing, still learning
Equitanicals has grown from those early questions into a collection of nearly 60 products. We are still expanding, and we are learning by the day.
I see that learning as an essential part of the journey. Building the range has given me more to explore, more questions to ask, and more opportunities to develop my understanding.
As we move forward, I want to retain the curiosity that started it all: looking closely, asking why, and giving thought to the products we choose for our horses.
Our story began with my daughters’ pony. It continues through our family’s love of horses, my passion for aromatherapy, and the ongoing work of building Equitanicals.
